Working families deserve a fighter in Washington who understands the struggle and won’t back down.

“I’m a working mom and educator, and as a councilmember in Pico Rivera, I’ve fought for results that improve lives.

I’m running for Congress because we need a fighter in Washington with the energy to stand up for working people and take on the Trump administration and the corrupt system in Washington that allows corporations to get rich while we struggle to pay for healthcare, childcare, and groceries. I’ll bring the change we need to Washington, fight back against the Trump administration’s blatant abuse on human rights, and work hard to make living in California more affordable.

My dad was an immigrant farmworker and my mom was 16 when I was born. I’ve worked hard my entire life, raising two kids, lifting others up through education, and getting things done for my community. I get the struggle, and now, more than ever, we need a fighter who understands it and is willing to take on the system to put people first. That’s what I'll do.” —Dr. Monica Sánchez

About Councilwoman Dr. Monica Sánchez

Dr. Monica Sánchez is a working mom, educator, and longtime advocate who serves on the Pico Rivera City Council and has fought to improve lives for all residents. The daughter of a Mexican immigrant farmworker and a mother who was just 16 years old when she was born, Dr. Sánchez’s life reflects the determination and resilience lived by many working families across Southern California.

As a Councilmember, Dr. Sánchez has delivered real results that put people first by making housing more affordable, improving public health and safety, and taking bold action to defend California’s values. She led efforts to stabilize mobile home rents, approved multiple affordable housing and mixed-use developments, championed clean water filtration projects, banned flavored tobacco, and expanded transportation options with the city’s new dial-a-van program.

Dr. Sánchez has also actively stood shoulder to shoulder with community members to denounce ICE raids, worked with federal leaders to identify those detained, and helped launch local relief efforts—including grocery deliveries and establishing a legal assistance fund for families impacted by immigration enforcement. In recognition of her leadership and community service, Dr. Sánchez was named a 2022 Los Angeles County Woman of the Year by the Board of Supervisors.

Dr. Sánchez earned a Doctorate and Master’s degree in Education from UCLA, a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from UC Berkeley, and is also an alumna of Rio Hondo College. She works as an educator for the Los Angeles County Office of Education and continues to advocate for women, children, and public health. Before being elected to the City Council, she served as a Planning Commissioner and spent four years on the city’s Parks and Recreation Commission. She is proud to live in Pico Rivera with her two sons.
